Can the pain in my groin and left testicle that radiates to the lower back and abdomen be related to a small varicocele?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had some pain in my groin and left testicle; sometimes, the pain would shoot to my lower back and lower abdomen for the past year. I have an ultrasound, and the doctor said nothing is wrong with my kidneys and spleen. However, I have done an ultrasound of my testicles, and the doctor said I had a small varicocele and then asked me to do a semen analysis. I want your view on this, please help. I am taking Humira injections for Crohn's disease every two weeks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Varicocele is dilatation of testicular veins and can cause less number of sperms and and their reduced motility which can cause pain. Varicocele grade 2 or above on ultrasound which causes pain or low sperm counts, should be treated. Treatment is by surgical ligation. It can be open microscopic or laparoscopic ligation. If you have any more queries, please let me know.

Kind regards.
