Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having period cramps.

I took tablet Advil (Ibuprofen) 14 hours ago, and I just took tablet Tylenol Extended-Release (Acetaminophen).

Is that fine?

Kindly advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, absolutely. It is completely fine to have taken Acetaminophen Extended-Release (Acetaminophen) 14- 16 hours following consumption of Advil (Ibuprofen). They both help in relieving pain and have anti-inflammatory properties. However, at least a 12-hour interval is required between consumptions if using painkillers. A better medication is tablet Meftal Spas (Mefenamic acid), which is a combination of Mefenamic acid and Dicyclomine, taken twice daily in the morning and at night after food. However, if there is no intolerable pain, they may not be needed. If you are consuming the medicines based on pain intensity alone, you may need to make sure to consume the medications at least 12 hours apart. Apart from this, hot water bags or hot towel fomentation may be helpful.

Hope it was informative and has provided clarity.

Stay happy, healthy, and safe.

Thank you.
