Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a deep cleaning done recently. Yesterday I noticed a small pea-sized bump on my hard palate. The dentist did inject me with Novocaine (Procaine Hydrochloride) to numb the upper right side of my jaw. I am not sure whether it is related or not. Any ideas what this could be?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Good evening. I hope you are well. Thanks for approaching icliniq. I saw your query. I will help you solve the issue. I saw the picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity) attached. The bump may be due to any swelling or infection or related to a local anesthetic.

I advise you to wait for three days and check if it is increasing in size or causing any discomfort.

Apply Dentogel (Choline Salicylate and Lidocaine) ointment in that area thrice in one day for five days.

Thank you. Have a nice day.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Is Dentogel the same as Orajel (Benzocaine)? It looks like that is the only thing my pharmacy has OTC (over-the-counter). So, let me know.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Dentogel as an anesthetic effect. It reduces the pain and causes a soothing effect to the gums and palate. Orajel is usually given for mouth sore or pus. OTC also cures mouth sores, and you can buy that also. But Dentogel will be good. The picture (attachment removed to protect patient identity) you have given is why I have chosen this topical ointment. So I have suggested Dentogel. You can also use OTC. It also has similar effects, like a soothing effect on gums. Check the medications and indications correctly before using them. I also suggest you apply coconut oil as a remedy.

If Dentogel is not given in OTC means, you can go for Orajel. But topical ointments are enough, instead of taking oral medicines. I also advise you to take less spicy food and check if any of your teeth are sharp or involve the palatal mucosa. Do not worry, sir. It will subside in few days. Follow me up for further queries. I will help you in all possible ways. Thank you.
