Are panic attacks related to heart problems?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Before, I used to feel tension and panic. I also got panic attacks. Since then, I have been experiencing all these symptoms. Is this anything heart-related? I am taking capsule Betacap TR 20 mg and tablet Nexito Plus 5 mg. Please help me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The echo is normal, and the echocardiogram is of sinus tachycardia, very much in line with panic or anxiety. Still, I would suggest a thyroid profile, as thyroid disorders closely mimic panic attacks.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your response.

I also did a thyroid test, and I have attached the reports. Please have a look at it.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your T3 and T4 levels are normal, but thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are low. It is like subclinical hyperthyroidism, which means the thyroid hormones are slightly overactive. I would suggest you consult an endocrinologist for further investigations and treatment. Also, the tablet Propranolol has improved your symptoms of hyperthyroidism and panic attacks.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
