How effective is Krimson 35 for irregular periods in PCOD?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 21-year-old woman, a patient of PCOD, and I used to take Krimson 35 as per my doctor's prescription. She told me to take it for one year, but I stopped after six months.
Now, I want to have unprotected sex without getting pregnant. So, my concerns are:
Can I take this tablet as it is recommended for me, and does it also have contraceptive effects?
I still suffer from irregular periods and want to complete the one-year medicine course. So, how far is it effective?
Kindly suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Krimson-35 (a combined oral contraceptive containing Cyproterone and Ethinyl Estradiol) is commonly used in PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) for cycle regulation and also provides contraceptive protection, but it works effectively for pregnancy prevention only when taken regularly and correctly as per schedule.
Since you had stopped it earlier, you should restart it properly (usually from day one to five of your period) and take it daily without missing doses; irregular use will reduce its contraceptive effectiveness.
It is important to understand that it is not an emergency pill, so it will not protect you immediately if you have unprotected sex before starting or during missed doses. Once taken correctly for a full cycle, it gives good contraceptive protection.
Since you already have PCOD and were advised a course earlier, continuing it can help regulate periods as well, but do not start randomly; follow a proper schedule.
For immediate protection, use additional methods (like condoms) initially. You can share your last period date or current cycle details so I can guide you step by step on how to restart it safely and effectively.
I hope you find this helpful.
