Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

The cause of the ring I acquired around the apex of my penis, right below its head, was enlargement of the veins. But now it seems to be swollen. The veins are less noticeable, but the swelling puffs up toward the top. I am circumcised, but when I first noticed the veins, I was sexually active. What is the cause? Is it lymphangiosclerosis? The symptoms seemed to resemble lymphangiosclerosis, and it has been about two weeks since I first noticed them. I am currently taking biologics like Humira. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Please help me with a few details so that I can understand your situation better:

  1. Are you diabetic or hypertensive?
  2. Do you smoke?
  3. Why and when were you circumcised?
  4. Does this swelling only appear when you have an erection, or is it present in a flaccid penis?
  5. Do you have any trouble passing urine?
  6. Is there any history of you using a ring of sorts during intercourse or masturbation?
  7. Have you had any scans or tests done?

Please revert with the following details.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I was circumcised at birth. The swelling is there when the penis is erectile or flaccid. I do not use any rings of any sort during intercourse. I use biologics because I have psoriatic arthritis but do not have diabetes. I have not had any scans or tests. Is it something that could be serious? Possibly cancer or growth? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Your condition does not seem like cancer in any shape or form. However, there is some abnormality, which may be like an AV (arteriovenous) malformation. I suggest you get the following tests: Ultrasound penile Doppler or uroflowmetry. These tests will help analyze your condition better. Please provide further information on:

  1. Do you have any pain in the area? In a flaccid or erect state?

  2. Are your erections normal at the moment as they were before?

  3. Is there any recent history of medication intake or an insect bite?

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Pain is probably 0.5/10 so nothing much at all! Erections are normal... No new medication or insect bite however it all started a few days after shaving. I seemed to have knocked a piece of skin right at the base of the shaft of the penis. Is all seemed to start after that.. I've stopped being swdually active the last 3 days and it seems to me coming down alot. The cut is also healing so I'm not sure it had anytn8nf to do with that.. I will have those tests done as well!

Hello again Thank you for reverting back with the details. Yes, it is possible that the cut has caused an infection and inflammation around your penis. Especially since you’re now saying that it is calming down. It would be wise to get those tests regardless to rule any abnormality out. I wound also recommend you take some anti inflammatory medication - paracetamol ibuprofen - 1 tablet twice a day x 3 days to help reduce the swelling further. These can be easily bought over the counter at the pharmacy. Hope this puts your mind at rest. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
