Why am I having pharynx dryness for the past five months?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 33 years old, 5.91 ft, 182.98 pounds. I have been suffering from non-stop pharynx dryness (right behind the tongue) for the past five months. I am drinking a lot of water, doing a salt gargle, taking GERD medication for one month, and have been tested for Sjögren syndrome. Nothing helped.

I have noticed that air coming from the AC, ventilator, or wind increases the problem. I have also been ill already five times this year (pharyngitis with or without fever, up to 104 Fahrenheit), and I think it is related to my throat weakness. The doctors have no idea, and I do not know what to do, at least to relieve my symptoms. I have tried a lot of OTC medicines such as Propolis spray, capsules, etc., but nothing helps.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

You probably have allergic chronic pharyngitis with air sensitivity.

The probable cause: Allergy.

Investigations to be done:

Differential diagnosis: Chronic pharyngitis.

Probable diagnosis: Allergic pharyngitis.

Treatment plan: So you may do the following things:

  • First, avoid AC (air conditioner) air as far as possible.
  • Take antiallergic medication at night for five days.
  • Use a chlorhexidine gargle twice a day, with one teaspoon to be diluted in one glass of slightly warm water.
  • Avoid smoking and drinking for at least three months.

Preventive measures: Avoid smoking cigarettes and alcohol intake.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I also forgot to mention that I have been given Desloratadine once a day for three weeks now, but it does not seem to help. Does it mean I have no allergy?

I have already done some blood tests, which you can find below.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

But symptoms point towards that (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). I think that the use of Chlorhexidine gargle will surely help you.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

It is written that the usual treatment time is seven days. If symptoms persist beyond five days, the need for further treatment should be assessed by the physician or dentist. Is it true?

Please suggest.

Thank you.
