Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 78 years old. I am diagnosed with a skin allergy and infection. A medical check-up has already been completed. Is it appropriate for a doctor to prescribe 75 milligrams of Pregabalin three times a day for a 78-year-old patient? The side effect observed is excessive sleepiness. I am also taking Loratadine and Celecoxib. What should I do to manage this?
Please advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand what you are going through. Skin allergies and infections can be uncomfortable and tiring at your age. Pregabalin at 75 mg three times a day is a dose that doctors sometimes use for nerve-related pain or severe itching, but in someone who is 78, it can indeed cause significant sleepiness, dizziness, and even increase the risk of falls. That side effect you are noticing is quite common and important to take seriously.
Given your age and the strong drowsiness you are experiencing, it would be wise to follow up with your doctor soon and let them know exactly how sleepy it’s making you feel. Sometimes the dose can be reduced, adjusted to fewer times per day, or taken more at night to minimize daytime sedation.
Also you are taking Loratadine and Celecoxib with it. Your doctor may want to review the combination to make sure everything is balanced and safe for you. If you feel very sleepy or if you experience confusion, unsteadiness or difficulty in staying awake, do not delay; get medical advice immediately.
In the meantime, try to avoid activities that require alertness, like walking without support, if you feel unsteady, to reduce the risk of falling.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer.
Thank you.
