How can I manage the black marks on my face after a boil?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For eight months, I had boils on both sides of my face. Now, they left dark black marks. They are very stubborn and extremely hard to fade. They are gradually disappearing, but it is too slow. Please tell me how to manage these?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is tough to treat. The essential thing is protecting skin from UV (ultraviolet) rays, so sunscreen with SPF 50 (sun protection factor) is a must in the morning hours. Apply it every four hours when you go out to the beach or park for a longer duration.

I would suggest you use a topical cream called Demelan (Kojic acid, Glycolic acid, and Arbutin). It will help to reduce the pigmentation and lighten the pigment. Use this cream twice a day. Other options are a series of glycolic acid chemical peels and microdermabrasion, which will help to exfoliate the skin and lighten the pigment.

Thank you for consulting me.

Please feel free to reach out in case of further queries.

Thank you.
