What is the best diet for patients with prediabetes?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A local doctor tested my blood for signs of prediabetes. I have my blood results and would like a second opinion on them.

If I have prediabetes, then what changes should I make in my diet or lifestyle?

I am attaching my reports for your reference.

Please help.

Your reports are normal. I suggest you kindly continue your lifestyle as it is. If there is any other issue do let me know.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

My issue is that I often suffer from chills in my arms and legs, nausea, and light-headedness to the point I cannot get out of bed for hours. Sometimes I have to urinate frequently.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Chills in arms and legs can be due to vitamin deficiency or nerve compression. Nausea and lightheadedness can be due to low blood pressure, or gastric issues. It is common to have irregular urination patterns. It changes due to climate, stress, sleep pattern, fruit intake, and protein intake.

I have a few questions.

1. What about your weight?

2. Are you suffering from depression?

3. How is your sexual life?

4. Do you exercise every day or five times a week?

5. Do you complete 10000 steps in a day?

Kindly update us with the answers.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

My weight is 122 pounds. I am not on any anti-depressants though I do have a history of suffering ling from chronic depression. But it has not bothered me much in recent years. Right before my symptoms started I was generally happy and not depressed.

I have not had sex in over a year. Before my symptoms started I was exercising heavily with lifting weights every other day. Since my symptoms have started I exercise much less frequently; usually only once a week though I try to take walks every day. My average steps are around 7000 to 10000 per day.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you continue your normal lifestyle. Avoid oily and spicy food, and drink adequate water. If the issue persists, I suggest you plan for neuropathic treatment.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.
