Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 27-year-old male with fatty liver and was diagnosed as prediabetic (HbA1C 5.8 %). One month back, I had headaches, high blood pressure, and sleeplessness, and it resolved. Later, after a few days, I felt light-headed and had headaches, high blood pressure, and sleeplessness. I temporarily switched my diet to keto and started supplements after eating unhealthy foods. I consulted a doctor, and he said I do not have diabetes even though I was prediabetic last year. As per my recent blood report, HbA1C is 5.4 %. Is the A1C blood test more accurate than the daily blood glucose monitoring? Is the blood test accurate or OGTT?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
HbA1C (glycated hemoglobin) reflects the average glucose level over the past two to three months. It is done for the diagnosis and monitoring treatment of diabetes mellitus. HbA1C is considered more important in the diagnosis of diabetes. But blood glucose estimation is simple and more commonly used in many countries to diagnose diabetes. A glucose tolerance test (OGTT ) is rarely needed to diagnose diabetes. It is more commonly done during pregnancy to check glucose intolerance.
Thank you.
