Which pregnancy vitamins are safe in the first trimester?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 34-year-old woman, and mother of a 3-year-old daughter. I am two and a half months pregnant. I want to know what multivitamins to take. My gynecologist has suggested that I take Amway Nutrilite and a Cor-3 tablet daily. She suggested me to take it for a month and would change it later. But now she insists on continuing Amway as it does not have side effects as is plant-based.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

You do not need any vitamin supplements during the pregnancy unless there is a deficiency as you can get these vitamins through the food. (This is my personal opinion). However, you should take folic acid tablets till 14 weeks of pregnancy. You can shift to iron tablets after that. I suggest you take more green leafy vegetables and fruits (especially citrus fruits, as it helps in the absorption of iron). Keep yourself hydrated and drink at least three liters of water every day.

I hope this information will help you.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
