Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a question for my wife. She is pregnant and has been having palpitations. Her obstetrician sent her for a Holter monitor (not to a cardiologist), which came back saying she had rare premature ventricular contractions, one couplet, and one triplet. He has advised us not to worry. I wanted a second opinion on whether this is correct or if she should do a heart ultrasound and stress test to check if her heart is structurally normal. The couplet and the triplet are what concern me. In general, she has been having fewer palpitations recently and has no symptoms like dizziness, fainting, etc.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. If this is the full report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), it is normal. If she has shortness of breath and no other cause is found, an echocardiogram (ECG) can be done. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. I was concerned because I understood that a triplet is ventricular tachycardia. Does it normally happen during pregnancy? She does not have any other symptoms.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Rhythm changes do occur in pregnancy due to hormonal changes and electrolyte imbalances. However, rare premature beats, couplets triplets are normal. The concern is when pre-existing rhythm disorder is worsened during pregnancy and symptoms such as syncope occur. Send me the Holter report and other blood tests so that I may guide you further. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
