Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had taken Primolut-N three months back for ten days. I get my periods within twenty days every month after taking the tablet. But I have spotting ten days after the periods, which lasts till my next period. I have been having this for the last three consecutive months. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

I appreciate you signing up on icliniq.com.

You now have exclusive access to expert medical opinion.

The tablet Primolut N (Norethisterone 5 mg) is a synthetic progestogen medication used to treat various menstrual disorders, including irregular periods and heavy bleeding. It works by thickening the cervical mucus, which makes it more difficult for sperms to reach the uterus, and reduces the production of estrogen in the ovaries, which can help regulate menstrual cycles.

Based on your description, it seems that you may have developed a pattern of spotting or light bleeding after your periods. This is a common side effect of hormonal contraceptives like Norethisterone (Primolut N), and it is known as breakthrough bleeding or spotting. It occurs when the body takes some time to adjust to the new hormonal levels or when there is a fluctuation in hormone levels during the menstrual cycle. If you are concerned about this issue, I recommend consulting your healthcare provider. They can evaluate your symptoms and determine if there is an underlying medical condition contributing to the spotting or if there are other treatment options that may be more suitable for your needs. They can also guide you on managing the spotting and minimizing its impact on your daily life.

In the meantime, you may find some relief by using sanitary products like pads or panty liners during the spotting phase to manage any discomfort or inconvenience. It is also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet, regular exercise, and getting enough sleep, as these factors can help regulate menstrual cycles and reduce the risk of menstrual irregularities.

I hope this information will help you.
