Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I need to know about cardiac dysfunction. I was told it was detected on a venous Doppler while examining for DVT (deep vein thrombosis). What information can you provide about blood vessels that have a pulse and how this relates to cardiac dysfunction?
Please suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
DVT, or deep vein thrombosis, is a condition in which a blood clot accumulates in the veins of the lower limbs due to a prolonged bedridden state, reduced physical activity, or major surgery or bone fractures. These blood clots can often dislodge and travel through the right heart to block the pulmonary artery, leading to a condition known as pulmonary embolism, which can cause right ventricular dysfunction.
Pulmonary embolism is a critical medical condition that requires prompt treatment with anticoagulants and diuretics. I see you are on diuretics and that you are overweight. Please inform me of the findings from your lower limb venous Doppler and also complete the tests I am suggesting promptly.
These tests include a complete hemogram, urea, creatinine, D-dimer, NT-proBNP (N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide), coagulation profile, echocardiography with color Doppler, a report of the lower limb venous Doppler, and a chest X-ray in the PA (posteroanterior) view.
Thanks and regards.
