How to manage high troponin levels?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 11-year-old son fainted at soccer practice and was taken to the hospital. His heart had an extra beat. The bloodwork showed that his troponin level was slightly elevated. He is not on any medications. Is there a way of stabilizing troponin levels?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Elevated troponin may occur due to the involvement of the heart, lungs, and kidneys. They occur in blood as a response to trauma to the heart muscles. Slightly elevated troponin may or may not be related to a heart condition. The only way to stabilize it is to avoid the condition that makes it appear. If your son is having any symptoms related to the heart, like chest pain, or difficulty in breathing, he should get evaluated for a heart condition.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you
