Can redness on the face and neck caused due to Amoxicillin be subsided by taking Prednisone?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 2-year-old was on Amoxicillin for an ear infection. He developed redness on his face and neck and red bumps on his legs and arms after two days of dose. Our doctor said he had a medical reaction to the medicine and prescribed Prednisone. Now the redness is gone, but it returns after waking up or when he goes out in the sun. Is this something to be concerned about?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This phenomenon should gradually go away in a while after completing the course of Prednisone. However, if it persists for more than a week after stopping Prednisone or worsens, the child will need to be evaluated physically by a pediatrician for the same.

Regards.
