Which tests help diagnose rheumatoid arthritis?

I am a 45-year-old man who recently moved abroad. Here, I have been noticing pain and stiffness in my knees and elbows, especially in the mornings. Is it due to the cold? However, the pain seems to get worse with activity, and I have also observed some swelling in my knees. My mother had rheumatoid arthritis. Do my symptoms point to rheumatoid arthritis? What diagnostic tests should I take for diagnosis? Can you guide me through this?

As per the information you have given, it does tilt towards being diagnosed as rheumatoid arthritis with a positive family history of a mother having been diagnosed with RA (rheumatoid arthritis) and on treatment. Investigations such as CBC (complete blood count), rheumatoid factor, CRP (c-reactive protein), and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) can be done. Other advanced tests are there as well.

Though I mention the above still with you mentioning that you have shifted to a new place, I would also consider whether you have caught viral arthritis. This needs to be ruled out before declaring you as having rheumatoid arthritis just because of genetic predisposition. The flared-up immune response in your system will take time, whether it is viral arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Along with a rheumatologist, I would also suggest you consult an immunologist.
