Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 26 years old and have been suffering from colds and coughs. While I had a runny nose and cough for almost a week, my runny nose got cured, but occasionally, I get a dry cough, especially when my cough persists. Is it normal and advisable to take antibiotics in such situations? I did steam inhalation initially, and it did help. I am concerned about taking medicines often. When should I contact a doctor for a common cold?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. I suggest continuing steam inhalation. Sometimes, it is cough variant asthma, which worsens in cold weather. Nebulization with Salbutamol will help. Anti-allergic medicines will also be helpful. I suggest you take Montelukast (Montelukast sodium) 10 mg at night time for an allergic cough. Acetylene syrup is good for asthmatic and allergic coughs. No need for antibiotics. I hope I have cleared all your doubts. Feel free to get back to us if you have more queries.

Thank you.
