Are there any treatments for my seasonal allergies?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I always have problems with frequent colds. I have been doing pranayama and had no problems. I used to have wheezing but that is under control. For the past few months, since the weather changed, I have been getting frequent colds. I have been taking syrup for nearly six months. It is not helping now. I get nose blocks and a runny nose early in the morning, sometimes with sneezing. This problem keeps coming on and off. As long as I take the medicine, I am fine.

A few days after stopping the medicine again, the symptoms start. The doctor has asked to take it again for ten more days. I have had a COVID test done, and the test was negative.

  1. Shall I continue Levocetirizine?
  2. How long can I take it without side effects?
  3. I once experienced severe heartburn at night after taking this medicine. Can you please suggest what I can do?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

As per the history you have provided, you are having allergic rhinitis. It usually affects people with previous underlying allergic problems and those with an asthmatic history as well. For some people, it is triggered by atmospheric pollutants, which are mostly unknown and would vary in intensity when you are in different places depending on the amount or type of atmospheric pollutants present. Most people experience nasal congestion, followed by paroxysms of cough in the morning. As of now,

  1. Kindly continue with Levocetirizine as it is very effective and can be used for the long term.
  2. You may start using nasal spray. Insert the nozzle deep into each nostril tilt it towards the center or septum of the nose on each side and spray twice on each side. Do this only at night. And continue doing it for the next four weeks.
  3. Clean your room and house with a wet mop instead of dry brushing as the dust might linger in the air for a long time.
  4. Avoid cold weather, cold food, and drinks. Try to keep warm.

Kindly follow the above advice and follow up after a month.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
