What are the most effective methods for managing scabies?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had intercourse with my partner, who is suffering from scabies. I used Lindane lotion and a moisturizer cream twice. I am experiencing severe itching and am currently taking Hydroxyzine. Can you recommend additional medication and soap to help kill the mites?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Do not worry. Use a lotion containing Lindane and Cetrimide for two consecutive nights, then wash it off with warm water the following day. Wear loose-fitting cotton clothing. All clothes should be washed in hot water and dried in the sun. Avoid using any cosmetics, creams, lotions, or oils. Refrain from sexual contact for a while. Take deworming medications as prescribed and take Cetirizine at night. Schedule a physical examination and appropriate tests to rule out any other problems associated with scabies and receive appropriate treatment.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
