Can a severe cough in the morning indicate an allergy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 2 years and 8 months old. He has a severe cough nowadays, especially in the morning. I am currently giving him Levolin syrup for his cough. Also, he vomits after a bout of a cough. He has a history of wheezing and was prescribed nebulizers by the doctor. I need to give him antibiotics almost every month. Could it be an allergy?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do not unnecessarily start him on antibiotics. It is common in children of this age group to have a cough and cold on and off, due to seasonal variations. He will overcome it as he grows old. Do not start antibiotics unless the cough is associated with fever. Continue with the nebulizer and antitussive medications (medicines used to prevent or relieve a cough) for symptomatic relief.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Is there any medication to improve his immunity?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There is no medicine to improve immunity except for multivitamins and health supplements. Avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics, which would be sufficient to improve his immune system.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
