Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My aunt is 52 years old. She has been taking Clonazepam for her seizure issues for a year. However, her symptoms keep recurring, and she has been taking the medicine continuously. Does taking it continuously affect her health in any way? I searched on the internet and got to know about Diazepam medication. Would you please suggest this for her seizures? Is it a safe choice? What are the side effects that we should be aware of? Will her health issue be resolved by using this medication?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for briefing me regarding the problem of concern.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
When Clonazepam is used consistently to treat seizures, tolerance, dependency, and symptoms of withdrawal may occur. When a medication loses its effectiveness over time and needs increasing doses to have the same beneficial effect, this is known as tolerance. Dependence refers to the physical and psychological need for the medication to prevent seizures, and withdrawal symptoms may occur if the medication is suddenly stopped or reduced.
Nasal spray Diazepam is a newer medication for the treatment of seizures associated with epilepsy in adults. It is a modified form of tablet Diazepam, which is also used to treat seizures. Diazepam is administered intravenously (IV) and is typically used for the short-term management of seizures that are not controlled by other medications or can not be managed orally due to vomiting or other factors.
While Diazepam may be effective in managing seizures, it should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider who can monitor the use and manage any potential side effects or complications. Some potential side effects of Diazepam include drowsiness, confusion, and respiratory depression, particularly at higher doses. It should be used with caution in older adults and people with respiratory or liver problems. It is important to understand that while medication can help manage seizure symptoms, it is also important to address any underlying medical conditions that may be contributing to the seizures, such as head trauma, brain tumors, or other neurological disorders. A comprehensive treatment approach that includes medication, lifestyle changes, and support from family and friends may be beneficial for managing seizure symptoms and improving overall health and well-being. Your aunt's physician can provide more detailed information about the potential benefits and risks of Diazepam for her specific condition and can help develop a personalized treatment plan that meets.
