Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently following an orthodontic treatment. Recently, I started to have sensitivity to hot and cold food items on a tooth that had an old filling on it. The filling was made when I was 12 years old. I never had any problem with this tooth before. The dentist suggested that the filling might be leaking and he recommended me a root canal treatment. I asked for a filling replacement first. After the filling replacement, everything was going well for a few days. I could drink cold or very hot fluids without any sensation. But now it is starting to become sensitive again. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through the images (the attachments remove dto protect the patient's identity).

Yes, you need a root canal. It seems your tooth has a deeper cavity. Also, get your teeth cleaned as orthodontic treatment binds teeth and food lodgement occurs there. Just ask the dentist for a root canal and cleaning teeth. Once the tooth is treated, there will be no sensation, and also get a crown right after the root canal because once the tooth has become root canal treated, there are chances of the weakening tooth. So, get a crown.

Wish you good health and happiness.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
