Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 20-year-old, weigh 170 pounds, and 5 feet and 8 inches tall. I recently completed a 10-day course of 875 mg Amoxicillin and Macrobid. I no longer experience painful urine, discharge, itching, or anything else. My only noticeable symptom is pain during intercourse. When my partner and I become intimate, I almost always get this burning sensation. What do you think it is?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and examined your picture (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). I may describe your symptoms in two ways. Either you had a urinary infection along with a vaginal infection (one has been treated, the other remains) or you never had a urinary infection, thus the vaginal infection is still present. The symptoms of vaginal and urinary infections are the same. Bacterial vaginosis (which is not an infection) is another option. Your antibiotic regimen would have also destroyed the beneficial microorganisms. Now, for your vaginal infection, which manifests as thin, watery discharge following periods and intercourse. The vagina is dry during sex, the lubrication is quite poor, and there is discomfort when the penis rubs against the inner wall of the vagina, and after intercourse, there is a burning sensation. You will have to take a few days off from sex till this is handled. You can use mild vaginal washes twice a day. Take a course of tablet Probiotics (dietary supplements), such as those containing Lactobacillus, twice a day for seven to ten days. I believe that you will perform well following the course. It is usually good to take a probiotic together with antibiotics in the future.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
