How can sinus tachycardia be managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

When I am at rest, my heart beats faster than normal—typically around 90 beats per minute or more. I have difficulty sleeping at night. When I am active, I do not have any issues. However, I am unable to breathe normally when lying down.

Please provide any suggestions.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have a condition called sinus tachycardia, which means your heartbeat is faster than normal, but you do not have arrhythmia. The cause is sympathetic overdrive, indicating that you may be more anxious than others. I suggest taking one tablet of Metoprolol 50 mg daily at 8 AM. Please consult your specialist doctor, discuss this with them, and start taking the medication with their consent.

Additionally, please send me a copy of your recent ECG (electrocardiogram) for evaluation.

Have a good day.

Thank you.
