Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have an issue that has been ongoing now for six months. It all started 4 years ago when I woke up with my right eye blood shot.I was not hit or I do not recall any type of injury that caused this. My eye doctor sent me to a specialist. They could not see inside the eye for the blood. I left with eye drops for inflammation and for light sensitivity. About 10 days after I woke up with the bloodshot eyes, my eye pressure was really bad. The specialist had to go in surgically to remove the pressure. All went well and things seem to get better except for my eye would never clear up from being blood shot. About 1.5 months later, I got what I thought was a cold. After fighting it with over-the-counter stuff, I went to a local clinic to get some antibiotics. A month later, I got a cortisone shot and more antibiotics and that did it. I got well for the rest of that year. I continued to use the eye drops, but could not get rid of the bloodshot eye. A year later I got sick with a cold again, and this time, at the same clinic, they gave me a cortisone shot right away with the antibiotics. This did the trick again for another year. Now, when I get the cold, my sinuses go crazy with running nose and bad eye watering. I lost the vision in my right eye when I woke up that morning that started all of this. The right eye was a lazy eye all my life, so at best, I had 20/300 eye sight, legally blind. I had a little peripheral vision at best. Now also, when I get a cold and my sinuses are going crazy. My good eye is very sensitive to the light. As the cold seems to happen more and more, my eyelid has dropped and looks like it is almost closed like it did when I was a kid. I have been fighting this sinus thing now. I hate taking antihistamine and over-the-counter stuff to combat this. I have been to an allergy specialist and I was borderline allergic to a couple of things, but was not allergic to anything in particular. I had a prosthetic eye put in to help hold the lid up and make the right eye look close to the left eye, esthetically speaking. None of this has stopped the sinus from going crazy or stop me from taking antihistamine. Have you heard of anything like this? Could it possible that sinus next to my eye is causing this? I can put spray in my nose on my right side and almost taste it right away. When I put the spray in the left side, I do not taste the spray like that. One last piece of information for you. When I got my tonsils out as a kid, I had a polyp taken out of my sinuses.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would like to know if you have got a CT scan done of your sinuses. If yes, then kindly share the films with me. If not, then please get it done. Sinuses are basically hollow facial bone, which cannot be seen or examined. To rule out any condition of sinus, CT scan is important. You should stop taking antibiotics and steroid shot like this unless proper advice and protocol. Polyp can be recurrent, but generally polyp what we have during childhood is less likely to appear again. If it is just sinisitis (that can be ruled out only after a CT scan), then antibiotics for 10 days with decongestants and mucolytics are given orally along with steroid and decongestant nasal spray for a few weeks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
