Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a relationship with a girl, and she has bronchiectasis. She recently did bronchoalveolar lavage to collect the sample from the lungs for testing. The reports were negative for infection and malignancy, but there was an acute inflammation. Is this contagious? And my dentist said that I have Sjogren's syndrome, but my general physician said that my dry mouth is due to aging. I have attached her reports. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. Her condition is contagious. If it was due to infection, we could say it is spreadable, but if the cause was hereditary or allergic, the chances of spreading are rare. Kindly answer the following questions to help you better; 1) Did you develop a dry mouth after meeting her? 2) Is she currently having any symptoms such are cough or cold? 3) Since when she has bronchiectasis? Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. She already had sarcoidosis, and then she got a COVID infection six months ago. She had a cough for a while, the pulmonologist prescribed antibiotics for two weeks, and the cough subsided. She does not have any symptoms like cough or cold. I had a dry mouth before she got sick. She had bronchiectasis after she recovered from the COVID. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Thank you for the quick response. I have gone through the reports (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). There was no infection in her reports, including viral or bacterial, and it is not contagious. She has an inflammation inside her lungs. We can call a disease contagious when there is the growth of microbes such as fungal, viral, or bacterial, but she does not have any of these, and she does not have any other symptoms. So do not worry; it is not contagious at all. Your dry mouth can be due to some other reasons. It is not associated with her symptoms. Take care.

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. I am not diabetic and I do not take any medications other than vitamins. Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Thank you for the quick response. I meant to say your symptoms of dry mouth are not associated with her conditions. So do not worry. Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
