Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I think I might have sleep apnea. I am a 22-year-old male. About three weeks ago, I had a cold, and two weeks ago, I started to feel more tired than usual, with mild lightheadedness, although that has been improving. From more than two weeks ago until today, I have been suffering a lot of anxiety and overthinking. A week ago, I started to feel some tightness or a stomach knot in my upper stomach, and a few days ago I started to feel a pushing sensation in my upper stomach when I lie down in bed. It makes me uncomfortable. When I wake up, I do not really feel fully rested. I can still do my daily activities without problems and also work out, but I was worried that these symptoms were caused by sleep apnea, which can be an early sign of respiratory onset ALS.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, you may have obstructive sleep apnea disorder. Though for confirmation polysomnography test is required. Your other set of symptoms are suggestive of anxiety which may be primary or secondary to your sleep apnea. Anxiety disorder is a common psychiatric problem and with very good treatment options considering your weight gain and anxiety, I would like you to get a thyroid profile test done.

Investigations to be done

The investigations include serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone).

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
