My daughter froths while sleeping. What is her problem?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My four-year-old daughter froths while sleeping. What can be the problem?

This has been going on for the past two months. Please see the one-minute video I have attached.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1. After seeing the video (attachment removed to protect patient identity) of your child sleeping with frothing at the mouth and making large noises and snoring), I think your child probably has a sleeping disorder.

2. It is caused most commonly by enlarged adenoids. These are similar to tonsils present at the back part of the nose called nasopharynx.

3. It is better to meet an ENT surgeon for adenoids. If it is not the problem creator (enlarged adenoids), then you can consult a sleep disorder specialist for further evaluation and treatment.

I hope it helps.

Thank you.
