Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Sore throat for the past three to four days. No fever, no cold. Very little pain, mostly while eating. Nothing in the lungs. Rare and minimal cough.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
You are experiencing a viral infection of the respiratory tract, which is usually self-limiting. It typically takes about seven to ten days, and sometimes up to fourteen days, to achieve complete relief. You do not have any symptoms of a bacterial infection, and in such a situation, antibiotics are not recommended.
I will suggest the following treatment plan:
Tablet Fexofenadine 120 milligrams (Antihistamine) – Once daily at night, orally in tablet form.
Tablet Ibuprofen 400 mg (Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) – After meals, three times a day, orally in tablet form.
Perform nasal douching and gargling with lukewarm saline water multiple times a day.
Take adequate rest and maintain a balanced diet along with a sufficient intake of clean drinking water.
Avoid spices, beverages, smoking, alcohol, and fried or fast foods.
Consume a bland diet until your symptoms improve.
If in two to three days you feel there is no improvement, you may follow up. In such a case, there may be a need to start antibiotics, as there is a possibility of a secondary bacterial infection.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
