I have a sticky throat always. Is it a major issue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a sticky throat always. I feel mucus is stuck in the throat. There is no pain. I can easily swallow. Please give your suggestions.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If mucus is coming from your nose to the throat, then you seem to have sinusitis. Do you have a blocked nose, headache or excessive sneezing. Regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No, I do not have any of those symptoms. I do not know whether it is coming from the nose to the throat. But, I always have this feeling of mucus stuck in my throat. I can spit it. I had a cough and cold some days back.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Kindly You get a CT scan of the nose and paranasal sinuses. Also, I suggest you start oral mucolytics (N-acetylcysteine) like Mucinac 1200 once daily for a week and nasal spray like Momeflo 1 puff in each nostril twice daily, which is generally given in sinusitis. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent. If you have a cold, you can start taking a decongestant. Do steam inhalation. Revert with the CT scan reports. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

How will the CT scan help? Is it a major issue?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

A CT (comouted tomography) scan will tell us if you have a sinusitis or not. Your symptoms are suggestive of sinusitis. And the throat problem is secondary to sinusitis. Regards.
