Should I wear zero power glasses while using laptop?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My eyes are 20/20. I am a coder and have to sit 16 hours in front of the laptop. Should I wear glasses of zero number while using laptop? Please suggest.

Hello.

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is great you having good vision without glasses. There is no need to wear glasses while using laptop. The most common problem that people encounter while using digital screens for a long time is dry eyes. Because, they keep staring at the screen and do not blink at normal rate, which is about 10 to 15 times per minute. While using laptop, it may decrease up to 2 to 3 times per minute and that causes dryness of the front surface of the eye (cornea). Try to modify your habits while using a laptop to blink frequently. If you got some symptoms of dryness like grittiness or itching you can use artificial tear drops. But, I think you will be fine with just normal blinking.
