Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My period went on for four days and on the 8th day of my cycle, I and my boyfriend had unprotected sex for the first time. I have never had unprotected sex ever in my life. He did not cum inside my vagina nor did he even cum when he pulled out. The next day I still took an emergency contraceptive pill on the 9th day of my cycle just in case because I was quite scared. Fast forward to today, and I am now bleeding. It started off light spotting but now it feels like a light period. It has been two weeks since my last period so is this pregnancy or is it just an emergency contraceptive pill messing with me?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It is possible that the bleeding you are experiencing is a side effect of taking the emergency contraceptive pill. An emergency contraceptive pill is a high dose of hormones that can disrupt your menstrual cycle and cause irregular bleeding. This is a common side effect and is not necessarily a sign of pregnancy. However, it is important to note that emergency contraceptive pill is not 100 % effective in preventing pregnancy, so there is still a small chance that you could be pregnant. Given the timing of unprotected sex and the fact that your boyfriend did not ejaculate inside of you, the risk of pregnancy is likely low. However, it is always a good idea to use protection to prevent both pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. If you are concerned about pregnancy, you can take a pregnancy test about two weeks after the date of unprotected sex. If you experience any unusual symptoms or if the bleeding becomes heavy, you should contact us for follow-up.
Thank you.
