Can the staining in between the teeth be removed during teeth cleaning by a dentist?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The dentist did not remove all the staining in between my teeth. What to do? During my deep cleaning today the dentist said that the tools used were too big to remove the staining in between my teeth so he did not remove them fully. He said in order to fully remove the staining he would have to clean every tooth individually. He was visibly frustrated because I had a lot of staining. I neglected my teeth for a few years due to mental illness and lack of insurance. It kind of seemed like he used that as an excuse not to remove all the staining. Is there anything I can do? Should I ask if they can remove the stains fully at a separate appointment or should I go see a different dentist about it?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and the thing is now you have realized and trying to maintain oral hygiene that is good enough. It is our dentist's community duty at all costs to be present for your service so saying that your in-between teeth space cannot be cleaned is an ignorant behavior. There are different pointers for each section in the teeth to be cleaned so that is never an issue maybe your dentist had different charges for different grades of calculus and deposits on the teeth. If you wish to go to the same dentist then visit one more time and ask clearly about the charges or if you feel better to see a new dentist you must. Patient satisfaction is our duty, if you are paying in full you must ask for full detailed cleaning, that is your right and you need not feel embarrassed for the same. I hope my answer was helpful to you. Do revert back for more details and information.

Thank you.
