Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Over the last four months, I have noticed a significant change in the overall health of my teeth. I am concerned about it as I first noticed that the tips of my teeth had turned grey. It was distinct from the other teeth, making it stand out. This only affected the tip and the area near the gums. My teeth have lost color and vitality over time since then. Teeth become transparent near the tips. The area near the gums is turning dark, and black patches are seen.

It frequently occurs that the appearance worsens for a few days, then improves again. I brush my teeth twice daily and have done for many years. So this is not due to plaque buildup as I practice good oral hygiene using good toothpaste and mouthwashes to clear biofilms.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I looked over the image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). I want to reassure you that the change in the color of your teeth is nothing to be concerned about. Brushing too hard for an extended period causes enamel loss. As a result, it appears transparent. Use a baby toothbrush and gently brush from the gums to the tooth tips. Replace your toothbrush every two months. Staining occurs when medicines and mouthwash are regularly used, so refrain from using them. Irregularly positioned teeth cause plaque buildup. Please consult your dentist and get a scaling done. This will help you improve your gum health.
