Why is Chlorhexidine mouthwash used only twice daily?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Why is Chlorhexidine mouthwash used only twice and not thrice daily?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Chlorhexidine mouthwash is only used twice daily for some reasons. It has the property to stain teeth if we use it more. We brush twice a day, which is recommended for every healthy person, and mouthwash works best after brushing teeth. Using mouthwash unnecessarily will stain the teeth, and they have chemicals that are not suitable for teeth without brushing.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
