What could cause burning sensation in the vagina after having sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having sex with my boyfriend for a couple of months and this never happened before. Nowadays after sex or if we do it more than once, I feel a burning sensation in my vagina or my clit. At first, I thought it was a UTI but even after treatment it comes back and I know he does not have any STD. So what is wrong? I know I am lubricated enough before we begin doing things. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

First please confirm whether your boyfriend has been tested for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). If not I would suggest you get him tested before commencing any further sexual activity. I will suggest a couple of medicines to help with your symptoms. You should feel better in less than a week, if not please let me know.

  1. Clingen forte (Clindamycin, Tinidazole, and Clotrimazole) vaginal pessaries to be inserted once at night in the vagina as deep as you can go. Do this for six nights.
  2. Tablet Azithromycin 1 gram after food single dose.

A few tips to bear in mind:

  1. Always use condoms and the pill for protection against both pregnancy as well as STDs.
  2. Always pee after sex.
  3. Avoid intercourse for two weeks once u start the medications.
  4. Drink plenty of fluids and if you can cranberry juice too.
  5. Do not douche ever.
  6. For maintaining hygiene, please wash the exterior of your pubic area with a vaginal wash.

Let me know how you feel. If you are not better in a week please visit a gynecologist for a local examination and if needed do a pap smear. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.

You can always come back and reach me at icliniq.com.

Thank you for consulting me.
