What are the chronic spots on scrotum that do not hurt.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

There are spots on the scrotum for over a year. They are not painful. I just wanted to know if it was normal. Currently, I am taking Proguanil 100 mg (anti-malarial).

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is steatocystoma multiplex which is basically a benign cyst (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The line of management is surgical incision and extraction of sebaceous contents with the destruction of the sac to avoid recurrence. Laser, and radio-frequency can be used.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your reply.

Is there an alternative to an incision, like, ointment or treating it as a wart? Can you explain what you mean by the destruction of the sac to avoid the recurrence?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The incision is very small and can be done with a radio-frequency machine. These are cysts, even if we extract material from within and leave the sac behind which covers this material, there can be a production of material leading to cyst again. So to avoid recurrence if the sac is removed there will not be any recurrence at the same site.

Thank you.
