What causes acid reflux with a burning throat and stomach?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am not feeling good for more than four weeks. I do not have an appetite and so I have lost some weight. I have night sweats. My whole body is weak and uncomfortable for the whole day. It is getting worse day by day. I have a burning sensation in my nose and throat. I have more coughing after eating. I also have a burning sensation in my stomach. It gets worse after eating. It seems to be acid reflux after eating. I have extreme pain in my calf and I have difficulty in moving it. I feel very tired with severe night sweats. I wake up every half an hour every day at night.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Regarding your symptoms, you can have a differential diagnosis of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). It is basically reflux of acidic content of the stomach into food pipe or esophagus. To confirm it, I suggest you consult a gastroenterologist after the pandemic settles down and you need to do an endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis. Try to avoid drinking alcohol, citrus juice, tomato-based products, and coffee. After taking meals, have a walk and wait for two to three hours and then lie down. Keep a pillow to keep your head elevated while sleeping. Stop taking Omeprazole and start taking tablet Esmoprazole. Take syrup Sucralfate one tablespoon before 30 minutes of taking Esmoprazole.

I hope this answers your questions.

Please feel free to follow up whenever needed.

Thank you.
