What could cause intermittent pain, nausea, and a burning sensation in the stomach?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My stomach ache comes and goes, and I feel full after eating a little. I have also been nauseous for the past six days, and my stomach feels weirdly heavy. Also, when I have spicy food, my stomach burns a little. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It sounds like you might b experiencing an upset stomach or indigestion symptoms. Some of the symptoms you described, such as discomfort after eating, nausea, and feeling full quickly, can indicate these conditions. However, an upset stomach can sometimes be caused by food intolerance, infection, or a more serious underlying condition such as gastritis or an ulcer. If your symptoms persist for more than a week or if you experience severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or a high fever, it is recommended that you see a doctor to rule out any serious underlying health issues.

In the meantime, there are a few steps you can take to help manage your symptoms:

1. Avoid eating spicy or fatty foods, as they can worsen symptoms.

2. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

3. Eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of large meals.

4. Avoid lying down immediately after eating.

5. Consider taking over-the-counter antacids or acid reducers, such as Omeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) or Ranitidine (H2 blocker). However, please consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent

Hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
