Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son, now 16 years old, experienced an epileptic attack when he was six, but there have been no further incidents since then. He is currently focused on preparing for exams, which is causing him some stress. I am considering whether yoga might help him manage his anxiety and potentially prevent future attacks. Would enrolling him in yoga classes be a beneficial option? I would appreciate some guidance on this. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

There is evidence that mindfulness and meditation are helpful in decreasing stress levels. However, this is not the case for seizure attacks or epilepsy. In other words, yoga or meditation cannot prevent seizures, in an epileptic person.

Therefore, if you are worried about the recurrence of a seizure, your son should be evaluated by electroencephalography (EEG). For this aim, he should be visited by a neurologist.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
