Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am nineteen years old and this summer, the skin in my groin area started becoming thinner and more elastic. The thin spots are two on one side and one on the other side. I went to the doctor and they said it was dermatitis. They prescribed me Miconazole H cream and said to use it for 2 weeks, 2 times a day. But it did not help and the skin only worsened. Then I went to a dermatologist and he said it was quite normal for people of my age to get what I had and that it will improve by itself. But I am very unsure of it. The skin itself just gets worse and worse at the moment because it gets thinner and thinner. I have never had this issue before. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com,

I have read your query and understand your concern.

The white thinned lines are striae distensae. They are normal in nature and appear on the abdominal wall, groin, and thigh due to their elasticity. They occur due to rapid changes in weight as seen after pregnancy, dieting, or in bodybuilders. They can also appear due to steroid application or without any cause as seen in your case. Unfortunately, this is permanent and the only effective treatment for these is laser therapy.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
