Is my painless armpit lump linked to breast problems?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have piles.

Is there any relation present between piles and armpit swelling?

The swelling present in my armpit is soft without pain. I searched online about it and it showed me a result of breast cancer. I have this swelling for a year and it came after my delivery. But now, I am not breastfeeding. I am tensed about the swelling. Whenever I fold my hand, it looks like a bump.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Swelling in the armpit is usually an axillary fat or lipoma. It is not cancer. Cancer in the breast usually presents as a breast lump. They are hard and get increased in size. It is seen mostly after the age of 35 years. An isolated soft swelling occurs in the armpit as axillary lipoma and it occurs unilaterally.

There is no relationship present between piles and armpit swelling. Axillary lipoma is a self-limiting condition and it regresses on its own. I suggest you do a self-examination of your breast. If there is any palpable lump, then you may require some investigations to be done. If there is an absence of a lump in your breast, then you do not require any investigations. You can do a needle biopsy for the axillary lump to confirm the diagnosis.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
