Hello doctor,
My wife and I argue a few times, and every time we do, she goes into a depressed state. Her hands & legs get twisted, and she starts crying loudly if asked anything in between. She goes unconscious for a long time and then gets normal by morning. This occasionally happens when we are loud against each other, which has been happening for over three years. Just wanted to check if this can be avoided and if we talk. She is also taking anti-anxiety tablets. Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
The state of unconsciousness is called a dissociative state. It is a kind of defense or a buffer system used by the mind to avoid unnecessary tension and stress, but it is not a healthy line of defense. As you already mentioned, the main reason behind this event is your arguments and fights, so the best way to avoid this is to fight less, communicate directly, do not be angry and yell at each other. If you want to convey something to her, let the situation cool down and, in that state, only convey your thoughts to her, whatever you do not like and needs improvement. All marital relationships have problems. You may opt for couples counseling.
Hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
