Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently under tablet Thyroxine 100 mcg and other asthma medicines. Previously, my dosage was adjusted by a local doctor based on routine thyroid reports. Can you please suggest to me the thyroid medication dose based on my latest blood report?

Answered by Dr. Nagaraj

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your thyroid report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) is acceptable. To adjust your dose based on the report and medication dose you are taking, I would like to know few more details. Do you have any symptoms right now? Are you taking medicine all days a week or keeping one or two days off a week? Since when have you been taking the medication for thyroid? Is there any swelling in the front of the neck? Kindly let me know your answers to suggest accordingly. Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. The medicine is mostly running for around eight years now. Based on the report, sometimes, the doctor had added an extra dose. The consumption is daily tablet Thyroxine sodium 100 mcg (sometimes break when supplies are not available, for a short period of a week or two). I generally report after six months but am stuck abroad for almost one and half years now and unable to consult the regular doctor. My asthma issues also got flared up, so I took some antibiotics, now asthma is under control. However, there is intermittent headache, sometimes hot headache, or vertigo. I am not sure if it is due to thyroid or something else, but this is intermittent and a kind of migraine. I want to ensure if the dosage is correct. Can you please suggest to me if the dose is overdose or not enough? And also if the thyroid is causing these issues? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the details. The symptoms mentioned are not related to thyroid dose. As your thyroid values are fine and you do not have specific symptoms, you can reduce the dose to 75 mcg from now onwards. We will repeat the thyroid profile after three to four months and then adjust accordingly by looking at the reports. I am sure your doctor informed you that a thyroid tablet has to be taken early morning on an empty stomach and nothing to be taken at least 45 minutes after taking the tablet. This will ensure adequate utilization of tablets in the body. Avoid cabbage and cauliflower. Your Vitamin D is also low. You can start capsule Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) 60,000 IU once a week for eight weeks. Your diabetes control is good considering your age. Rest all look good. I hope this helps. Take Care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
