Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I recently got my teeth whitening trays, but I smoke too. But when I am smoking, I use the trays to cover my teeth. No, I do not bleach at that time. I just use the tray to cover my teeth.
Is that fine? My trays smell like tobacco. Does that matter?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
See, you have to choose one side. You have got stains due to smoking too, and that you know. Whatever treatment you undergo, smoking is going to degrade it, and you will ultimately get stains again (in this case). I might sound rude here, but you have to stop smoking.
You have to gradually decrease smoking and then totally stop. Otherwise, let alone the cancer part, it will definitely cause stains and degrade your gums and teeth health too. So, it is smoking vs too much of your tissues' health. In the long run, you will lose your teeth either due to cavities or loosening of teeth. So, stop smoking.
Coming to your query, I do not think that covering the teeth with a tray is going to help much. Actually, you are totally causing a negative effect by smoking while teeth whitening rather than doing any benefit. Sorry for the frank answer, but you need to take care of your health, and seeing your age, this is not a good habit, as it can lead to addiction.
Rest, yeah, we are there to treat you as much as possible for the consequences of your habit. For more information, consult a dentist online.
I hope this helps you.
Take care.
