My left testicle hangs horizontally rather than vertically. Does it indicate an onset of testicular torsion?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old and noticed a week ago that my left testicle hangs horizontally rather than vertically, especially after showering. The left one also appears much higher than the right. I am worried that it may be an onset of testicular torsion. However, I do not have pain. Is this normal, and what needs to be done?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. It is not testicular torsion or the beginning of torsion. Torsion is extremely painful; once it happens, it needs fixation within six hours. So, no need to worry at all. Testis are freely hanging in the scrotum. It can be horizontal or vertical. It can be also up or down. That is normal. No investigations or medications required.

Thank you.
