Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I had slight dizziness, palpitations, increased heart rate, anxiety, and acidity. I was asked to take a thyroid blood test, and my T4 level was 24.90. T3 and TSH levels were normal. Then I underwent a radioiodine test and was diagnosed with thyroiditis.
Doctor asked me to take tablet Inderal 20 mg only for ten days and no other tablets required, and repeat the thyroid blood test after a month. I would like to know if this medication alone would be sufficient.
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I have reviewed the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It shows that you have slightly high triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels. That is a good report, and you do not require to take antithyroid medicine.
However, because of your symptoms, your doctor has recommended Propranolol 20 mg, which is appropriate. This is merely a temporary deranged thyroid function test. Thus there is nothing to be concerned about. To be on the safe side, repeat your thyroid function test every three months. Eat healthily and get plenty of rest.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I also experience feeling off balance when I stand and feel a floating sensation while lying down. Will this be due to this present scenario?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
I suggest you check your random blood sugar whenever you feel dizzy. Now, two things could explain your dizziness and off-balance sensation. Firstly, high T4 levels enhance your metabolism. Therefore you must balance your meals accordingly. Eat a high protein diet. If you are a non-vegetarian, you can start eating eggs and meat as they can provide good energy to your body. Secondly, if these symptoms began after taking the medications, that could be due to a fall in blood pressure.
If you are improving, you can decrease the dose by taking medicine once daily. Acidity is not related to the thyroid. You can take tablet Omeprazole 20 mg once daily for four weeks. Take tablet Neurobion forte (a combination of Vitamin B12, B1, and B6 ) twice daily for three months. You can add tablet Calcium 500 mg once daily for three months and Vitamin D3 5000 IU every three days, one tablet for three months. If still symptoms persist, then get back to me.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.
Thank you.
