Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing persistent toothache for a while, and I have been using mefenamic acid to temporarily alleviate the pain. But, the pain returns shortly after taking it. I have a cavity, and my gums are swollen. I have been dealing with this toothache for the past few days, trying various home remedies, including using mouthwash and toothache drops, but the pain keeps recurring. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We are dedicated to addressing your health-related concerns.

You have mentioned experiencing a toothache for a while now. You have attempted to alleviate the pain using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and mouth rinse. Typically, a tooth comprises three layers: enamel, dentin, and pulp. When the decay is limited to the first two layers, enamel and dentin, the pain tends to be less severe. However, if it reaches the innermost layer (pulp), the pain becomes more intense. Considering your recurring pain and gum swelling, I strongly suggest that you consult a dentist for proper treatment. This is the most effective and lasting solution to your problem. Delaying treatment may worsen the condition of your tooth and its responsiveness to treatment. I urge you to seek treatment promptly.

Thank you.
